Which tool batteries fit?
Milwaukee M18, Makita LXT and DeWALT XR/FlexVolt 18V/20V batteries. Pick your brand above and the adapter is built for that brand's connection. Batteries not included.
Is this a volt dropper?
That's what a lot of Aussies call it. It's a regulated 18V to 12V converter: it holds 12V (13.5V actual) steady, not raw battery voltage.
Does it have enough power?
Most 12V gear draws far less than you'd think. A 12V fridge pulls 1–5A, lights and pumps less again. What matters is that the voltage stays steady and your battery is protected. The Middle Man delivers a regulated 12V at up to 10A.
Will it charge my batteries?
No. Vehicle bypass and solar sharing share or switch the load. Neither charges your tool batteries.
Can I run two different sized batteries?
On Milwaukee Gen 3 kits, yes: Smart Contacts take two M18 packs of different size and charge. Makita and DeWALT kits are Gen 2 and work best with a matched pair.
Can I run solar and a Starlink Mini at once?
Yes. Plug your regulated solar panel and the Middle Man into the two plugs on one end of a solar sharing splitter; the single plug on the other end runs the Starlink Mini. To run your fridge as well, add a second splitter on that plug to split it between the two. Solar shares the load; it doesn't charge your batteries.

How long will it run my fridge?
About 24 hrs on two 6.0Ah batteries, from our own test: a 32 L fridge set to 4°C in 26°C shade, pre-cooled, doors closed. Fridges cycle on and off, so real runtime varies with fridge size, brand and conditions. The Middle Man takes two batteries, so it runs longer and pulls more than our single-battery kits.
What can I run off it?
The regulated 12V/10A output (13.5V actual) runs 12V fridges, fans, lights, phones, pumps, a Starlink Mini and most small 12V electronics. At 10A it's the highest output in the ZED range, so it handles higher-draw gear than the Power Plate or Battle Station.
Will it protect my battery?
Yes. The Smart LVD (low voltage disconnect) cuts power at 14.0V under load before the battery over-discharges, then hibernates at ultra-low draw, so a battery left connected for weeks is still a battery.
Will it protect my battery?
Makita packs have their own internal disconnect, and ZED Makita adapters rely on that. The adapter is fused inside, with 6 safety protections.
What's the difference between Gen 2 and Gen 3?
Gen 3 kits have an injection-moulded Covestro Bayblend housing, and on the Middle Man, ZED's new Smart Contacts. Milwaukee Middle Man and Battle Station kits are Gen 3 now. Makita and DeWALT kits are the proven Gen 2 build with a polycarbonate housing, and work best with a matched pair. The Smart LVD is on every Milwaukee and DeWALT kit, Gen 2 or Gen 3. The output is identical: regulated 12V.
Can it run off my car?
Yes, with Vehicle Bypass. Plug the vehicle bypass cable into a 12V cigarette socket (ignition-isolated) and it switches between car power and tool-battery power, without swapping plugs between drives. It shares power to your gear; it doesn't charge your tool batteries. The vehicle bypass cable is sold separately.
